As the nation gears up for the final push to realise the smart initiative, meter installers across the UK are looking at how they can increase their daily numbers of meter installs by reducing downtime of material availability, by ensuring their teams are stocked and kitted out to perform their duties irrespective of what they are faced with at the point of installation.

By taking advantage of Meter Provida’s digital ‘one stop shop’ approach to a packaged logistic and product solution, installers are witnessing increased productivity with better motivated teams due to them having the right thing on their vans, heightened traceability of stock management, beneficial cash flow improvements through accurate ordering, less aborts and, as the mass of installs ramps up the essential tracking of the returned assets and compliance with industry regulations.

Meter Provida, at its centrally located Distribution Centre receives, stocks and manages serialised assets such as gas and electric meters, In Home Displays and Communication Hubs etc and issue these on behalf of the meter assets manager (MAM), meter asset provider (MAP) or energy supplier to installers, complemented with non-serialised ancillary products, consumables, tooling or PPE needed by the engineer for the installation.

Meter Provida have taken the initiative and streamlined this traditional methodology by digitalising the process and empowering the installation teams through a number of Apps on their mobile devices that enable them to order, get approval and receive their materials at a pickup point convenient to them to ensure they maximise their time getting meters on the wall.  The Slipstream family of Apps cover off all the needs of the installers business, including works management, product supply and asset tracking.

One of the Apps, WorkSmart can deliver next day any orders received before 12 noon of the entire materials needed into a chosen PUDO (pick up drop off) point guaranteeing availability of materials to conduct a full working day of meter installations. The engineer is notified of a collection when it arrives in the collection point and will be reminded daily that he/she has something to collect daily until collected.  Protection of outbound and inbound assets is guaranteed because of the strong plastic tote boxes used to protect and trace the assets, these are reused repeatedly reducing waste in the process.

Unlike other solutions, and to maximise productivity, the engineer is not required to collect the items the day the they arrive in the collection point and he/she has flexibility to collect within 10 days, this allows you to maximise installations and allow the engineer to collect at the best possible time, minimising disruption to already tight installation schedules.

When the engineer collects the new items from the collection point, he/she will also drop off removed assets for returning to Meter Provida, where they undertake sortation and repatriation to the asset owner.
